Monkey Mountain Salem
A circular trail takes you right through the home territory of over 200 Barbary apes. They live completely free in a 20 hectare forest area – almost like in the wild. The monkeys can be fed with free popcorn. A great experience for young and old.
Trained staff are happy to provide information and make small feedings with explanations for the spectators several times a day. Further highlights are the stork colony, fallow deer and the numerous water birds and carps along the picturesque pond.
Arenenberg Castle is situated at one of the most beautiful vantage points in the Lake Constance region. In 1816 the stepdaughter of Napoleon I, Hortense de Beauharnais, chose it as her exile residence. She expanded the complex and furnished the magnificent salons in a stylish manner. Visitors stroll through the castle and learn how Hortense lived with her son Louis. He later became the last emperor of France as Napoleon III.
Today the Arenenberg is a cultural, seminar and educational centre in the midst of a diverse and tangible garden culture.
The mild climate of the Lake Constance region has always played into the hands of gardeners. In the midst of the landscape shaped by the blue lake and green shores, over the centuries promising parks and lovingly tended gardens have been created. The network “Bodenseegärten – Eine Reise durch die Zeit” (Lake Constance Gardens – A Journey through Time) invites you to discover the most beautiful gardens around the lake and at the same time learn exciting facts about the history of horticulture in the region. The green network is constantly growing: since 2017, five new gardens have been added: Seeburgpark in Kreuzlingen, the Bibelgarten in Meersburg, the Stiegeler Park garden monument in Constance, the Stadtgarten Singen and the Parkhotel St.Leonhard in Überlingen.

The six large ferries operated by the Constance Public Utility Company commute all year round on the 4.8 km long ferry connection between Constance and Meersburg. They allow you to cross the lake on foot, by bike or by car around the clock without stress, saving you time and protecting the environment – the 15-minute crossing is like a short holiday: you experience the lake in all its different facets up close. A magnificent backdrop of blue water, the Alps and the island of Mainau passes by, and during the day the ferries run at a close pace. On board you can enjoy the view with a cup of coffee or a snack from the on-board bistro. At night there is the possibility of a crossing under the starry sky every hour. Whether you are on your way to work or a stroll through town – the ferry is always a good way to travel. The ferries have been transporting over four million passengers and around 1.5 million cars every year since 1928, plus bicycles, buses and trucks. Translating by ferry saves over 80 million vehicle kilometres per year.
